Acne is a common skin condition, affecting 80% of the population to some degree between the ages of 11 and 30. Usually striking during puberty, it is characterised by blackheads and pus-filled spots which appear on the face, chest, and upper back and shoulders. These occur due to the sebaceous glands producing excess oil, and dead skin cells clogging the pores.
The Plasma Shower is a revolutionary new treatment for acne. Plasma is an ionised gas that holds an electrical charge. When applied to the skin, the molecular structure of acne-causing bacteria is destroyed, and the skin becomes sterilised.
Oil production is reduced by up to 25%, and the plasma calms inflammation and regenerates tissue. The Plasma Shower is quick, pain-free and does not require any downtime. We recommend weekly treatments until breakouts have subsided.
This is a great treatment to combine with other facials within Harpenden Skin Clinic.
As well as being an effective treatment for acne, the Plasma Shower can treat hyper-pigmentation, ageing and damaged skin. The technology also increases collagen production, leading to tighter, smoother skin.
Each session will vary in length based on the amount of problem areas you wish to treat. We recommend a course of six to eight treatments for optimal results, however, some patients can see a difference after only three sessions.
Plasma Shower treatments are non-invasive. A plasma probe is applied to problem areas of the face or body. Minimal pain is reported, with the treatment described as an elastic band snap against the skin. Some areas of the face or body may be more sensitive than others.
The Plasma Shower sterilises skin and should therefore be kept free from make-up and moisturisers for 12 hours. You should not exercise or use a sauna/steam room for 12 hours. Your skin specialist will provide you with a more detailed aftercare plan which may include applying specific skincare products suitable for your skin type.
