Anti Ageing Treatments

Anti Ageing Treatments

One of the most popular and effective cosmetic treatments currently on the market, it’s no surprise that more and more people are trying this procedure for the first time. Before going ahead with any cosmetic procedure, it’s incredibly important to carry out your research beforehand to ensure it will be carried out in a safe environment by a trained professional. This will ensure that you feel comfortable with the procedure and greatly reduce the risk of any adverse side effects. We’ve saved you some time and effort by using our own expertise to put together an informative blog that covers key areas of the treatment and the common questions that we get asked.

What is it?

BOTOX® is a brand name but in essence, it’s a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. As with most cosmetic procedures, it was first used within the medical field then, once approved back in the 1980’s by the FDA, Anti Ageing Treatments became and (still is) an increasingly popular cosmetic treatment.

How does it work?

By providing temporary paralysis to individual muscles, preventing the release of a neurotransmitter from the nerve into the muscle. When carried out by a trained medical professional, it’s extremely effective in reducing wrinkles caused by excessive muscle movement and ageing.

How long does it last?

It’s worth highlighting that Anti Ageing Treatments provides a temporary paralysis of the muscles and as with most treatments, duration and effectiveness varies from case to case. Typically, people having “regular” Anti Ageing Treatments will have it done every 4-6 months, and you’ll notice movement coming back as it slowly wears off.

What areas of the face can be treated?

Upper face:

  • Frown lines (between eyebrows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Top of the nose (bunny lines)

  • Eyebrows/hooded eyes
  • Wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Under the eyes (tear trough)

Lower Face:

  • Lipstick lines (around the mouth)
  • Chin (to prevent dimpling)
  • Jawline & Neck

Does it hurt?

Of course, any treatments can hurt however, the needles that are used to perform Anti Ageing Treatments are exceptionally small which means pain is usually minimal. If you have a high pain threshold or are nervous of needles, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied prior to the treatment which will help to numb the area that’s being treated.

What shall I avoid after the treatment?

You’ll be given informative aftercare advice to follow which advises you to avoid rubbing or massaging the area, lying flat, avoiding exercise, hot baths, showers, saunas and alcohol for the initial 4-6 hours following your treatment.

How will I look straight after the treatment?

With Anti Ageing Treatments, effects aren’t instant but can start to be noticed within 72 hours. For some, it may take anywhere from 7-14 days to see the full effect and if it’s your first time, you might need to return to the clinic for a top up as sometimes treatments can initially only give a partial response.

Here at Harpenden Skin Clinic, we operate with a less is more ethos and always carry out an in-depth consultation with clients prior to going ahead with any cosmetic procedure or treatment, ensuring complete peace of mind for each and every one of our clients.
