Treatment

Skin Peels

Skin Peels are a great way to refresh tired skin. Unlike other treatments which target a single problem, facial skin peels remove dead skin cells, target acne, pigmentation and blemishes, smooth fine lines, and reduce open pores. Even better news – mild chemical peels require zero downtime, so you can get straight back to your day with more youthful looking skin.

Introduction

Skin Peels

Skin peels use naturally occurring acids and enzymes to deeply exfoliate targeted layers of the skin. The solution is applied, and the top layer of the skin is removed (some peels penetrate more deeply) revealing fresher, smoother skin. Chemical peels stimulate new cell growth and collagen production which both help to maintain a brighter, more even skin tone.

We also offer The Perfect Peel. This treatment targets deeper layers of the skin and is performed by our Nurse Practioner. The downtime for this level of peel is greater than a chemical peel.

Questions
You May Have

Am I a suitable candidate for a Skin Peel?

If you are looking to correct the appearance of your skin due to damage from ageing, sun exposure, acne or dark spots, you are an ideal candidate for a skin peel.

You should avoid skin peels if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have psoriasis, eczema or dermatitis.

How do Skin Peels differ from one another?

Skin Peels vary in their ingredients, and how long the solution is left on the skin. Different skin peels are better suited to certain skin types, for example, dry or oily skin. Specific acids better target problem areas such as acne scarring or wrinkles.

Do Skin Peels hurt?

It is a myth that chemical peels hurt, probably in part due to their name. You may experience mild stinging and tightness across the skin, and the face may temporarily turn red after the procedure. The newly revealed skin cells can be more sensitive, so applying sun-cream daily is advised for at least one month after the treatment.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

The results of chemical peels can be seen as soon as the skin heals. This is subject to your skin type and the intensity of the peel you have elected to have. Results of superficial peels may last for one to two months, while more intense skin peels can last for up to six months.

What peel do you use?

At Harpenden Skin Clinic, we use SkinCeuticals for our mild peels.
